Description

Located at the foot of Bathurst Street on the south side of Lake Shore Boulevard, Maple Leaf Stadium was the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club.

In 1926, the Maple Leafs moved from Hanlan Point Stadium (where Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run) to Maple Leaf Stadium which would be their home for the next forty-two years.  Known as the Fleet Street Flats, the jewel box-style baseball stadium had a beautiful concrete exterior with a seating capacity of 23,500.
The Maple Leafs also won the championship during the 1926 season with that team was named one of the 100 Best Minor League Teams by the National Baseball Association.
Some have argued that the success of the 1926 Toronto Maple Leafs baseball team and their popularity in the city lead to the hockey teams name change in 1927.
By 1967, the city of Toronto was ready for ready for a major league baseball team, Maple Leaf Stadium needed an upgrade and the team was sold.  The final home game was played on September 4, 1967 in front of 802 fans. In early 1968, Maple Leaf Stadium was demolished but the legacy lives on as the street it was located on was renamed ‘Stadium Road’.
